Musings, tips and the occasional rant from the world of online dating.
That’s right it is National Singles Week, a whole week for recognizing singles. I thought we already had a day for that back in February. The 14th I believe. Oh wait; I’m sorry that is the day that singles recognize themselves as such. This is a week that we have chosen to get everybody celebrating singles. National Singles Week starts today and runs through Saturday. That sure is a whole week.
So what can be done about all this singleness? Well according to Match.com research, two-thirds of singles think that dating online is the best way to go. To assist singles in their quest to meet that special someone, Match.com will be offering, starting tomorrow, a three-day free trial for all new registrants. This trial offer gives new members the ability to get familiar with all that Match.com has to offer. Which includes communicating with other members, viewing as many as 26 pictures of other members and seeing who has seen your profile.
I wonder what eHarmony, PerfectMatch, Yahoo! Personals and other online dating services will be doing this week to get us singles to signup. If you were thinking about jumping into the world of online dating, National Singles Week might just be the right time to take the leap.

Where singles click (Registration Required)
More on the idea of niche dating sites. Small sites built around an activity, religion or some other factor that people would like to have in common with a prospective partner.
At your most dating sites coming across a dog is not usually a good thing. But at DateMyPet, the site where you will find all kinds of dogs and other animals too, it is. This is a dating site for pet lovers of all types. If you are not looking for a date but an activity partner for your pet, you can do that too.
How many times has a relationship not worked out do to you having a pet that the other person doesn’t care for? This will not be a problem when using this site according to Robert Yau, the CEO of DateMyPet:
Speaking to the singles, it surprised me how many of their dates and relationships ended because the other partner was not compatible with their love for their pets. These range from ’she hated my dog’s drooling’ to ‘he is allegic to my cat’ and the classic ‘he thinks I’m crazy because I treat them like babies’. When the decision came to choose between the partner or the pet - it was a no brainer for the majority. The pet won.
So here we are, “if you want to date me, you have to date my pet”. Thats the drive behind this website. If you knew first hand that a person is a pet lover, it would make things a lot easier. That is a strong link that can be built upon.
A basic membership to the site is Free. This will allow you to post photos and reply to messages but if you would like to send messages you need to opt for the premium membership. If you are a pet lover then click on over and check them out.
DateMyPet, the niche dating site where your love life being for the birds or having gone to the dogs may actually be a positive thing.

Love Biatch: The Secrets to Internet Dating
Some thoughts you might want to keep in mind while navigating the Internet dating waters.
Shopping for soul mate sounds like a great idea
Not about dating via the Internet, but an interesting offline way to meet people. I had not heard of such an idea before, that was actually in practice anywhere. Showing up on a specific night at a store and marking your cart or something to signify that you are single and approachable. The funny thing is, the other night at work a friend of mine and I were joking around about the idea of a Costco singles night.
I had gone to an opening of a new Costco recently and was telling her about all the tasting stations they had. Free little tastes of food on toothpicks and napkins and small cups of smoothies and other beverages. She said jokingly that it is too bad they don’t have a singles night for you. I said yah, small groups of singles mingling around, while having hors d’oeuvre and drinks. Sounds like a party. Maybe Costco should try it out.
Pre-date ritual: Googling potential mate (Free Registration Required)
This was an interesting read and sparked me to try it myself. See Jason Griffin Googles Himself for more on how that worked out.
